Tirumala: On the auspicious occasion of Sravana Pournami on Sunday, Sri Krishna Swamy utsavarulu was taken to Varaha Swamy temple and special Tirumanjanam was performed in Swamy Pushkarini.
Later the Archaka Swamis decorated the deity with new Yagnopaveetham amidst chanting of vedic mantras.
Yagnopaveetham is a Sanskrit word; Yagna means sacred ritual and Upaveetham means a covering. On the whole Yagnopaveetham means a sacred ‘thread of sacrifice’ that symbolizes the sacrifice of ego, anger and selfishness.
According to Chief Priest of Tirumala temple, Venugopala Deekshitulu, Yagnopaveetha Sharanam ceremony is carried out to Sri Krishna Swamy every year on Sravana Pournami day which also happens to be “Jandala Panduga”. As the Sri Krishnastami is also a week away, a new Yagnopaveetham is being dressed to deity which has been in practice since ages”, he added.
After the Yagnopaveetha Dharana ceremony the deity was brought back to temple.
